Well, I have find a way that really works in controlling a kindergarten class. I discover that we must be firm with the children if we ever want to have control in the class. Kids are really restless and the moment they know that you are 'soft', they will bully you. You just can't use soft treatment on them; sweet talk does not work in my class. I guess it might be due to the background of the family of my students. All of them come from very rich family and most of them are spoil kids. To be firm doesn't mean punish them; it simply mean that you must do what you say and don't get too friendly with them. If some of them make some mistakes, I would ask them not to repeat them in front of the class and not simply ignore their mistakes (as though I didn't notice them).

Formness is definitely essential jst to let the students know that the teacher is a senior they should respect and listen to...and if it works in your class..that is great...but I also think that any teacher has to maintain a balance between being firm and lenient when needed....

I can understand what you are saying about firmness and clear expectations.  I have no experience in kindergarten teaching but I am very grateful that the teachers that my children encountered in the early years of education managed to convey warmth as well as clear expectations.  This is important because the child's experience in kindergarten can shape his/her attitude to education.
